Scholarships for Students Impacted by Cancer

Tragically, millions of families are impacted by cancer every year. According to the National Cancer Institute, “As of January 2022, there were an estimated 18.1 million cancer survivors in the United States.”

Another key point brought out by the National Cancer Institute is that “In the United States, the overall cancer death rate has declined since the early 1990s…the number of cancer survivors has increased…”. Though the fight against cancer continues, knowing that the number of cancer survivors has increased is an encouraging trend for those impacted by cancer.

Amount: $4,000

Provider: Mesothelioma.com

The Mesothelioma.com Scholarship awards $4,000 annually to one student impacted by cancer. Applicants must have battled cancer or must have a parent, sibling, immediate family member, or close friend who has battled or is currently fighting cancer. (Not limited to mesothelioma). Applicants must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university or college.

The Cindy Kimbrell Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Provider: Sweetgrass Pediatrics

Sweetgrass Pediatrics is proud to award the Cindy Kimbrell Scholarship to high school seniors. Applicants must have a personal cancer story or the cancer story of a parent or immediate family member.

Cancer Pathways Teen Writing Contest

Amount: $1,000

Provider: Cancer Pathways

The Cancer Pathways Teen Writing Contest is open to high school students between 13 and 19 years of age. Cancer Pathways invites teens to submit a short essay about their experience with cancer for the chance to win a $1,000 cash prize.

Kyla Jo Burridge Memorial Scholarship for Brain Cancer Awareness and Support

Amount: $3,000

Provider: Burridge/Singleton

The Kyla Jo Burridge Memorial Scholarship for Brain Cancer Awareness and Support aims to honor the memory of Kyla Jo Burridge. This scholarship is open to high school and undergraduate students impacted by brain cancer either personally, through a family member, or a friend.

Ryan R. Lusso Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Provider: Kari Lusso

The Ryan R. Lusso Memorial Scholarship is open to high school, undergraduate, or graduate students with a parent diagnosed with cancer. In honor of Ryan R. Lusso, a devoted father and husband who was curious and passionate about life, love, and his people…the gregarious extrovert who never met a stranger.

Brad Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $600

Provider: Crystal Hinshaw

The Brad Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship aims to honor the memory of Brad Hinshaw by supporting students who have lost a parent to cancer. High school seniors or undergraduate students who lost a parent to cancer may apply for this scholarship. Additionally, applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Jessica’s Journey Brain Tumor Survivor Scholarship

Amount: $500

Provider: Jessica Blankenship

The Jessica’s Journey Brain Tumor Survivor Scholarship seeks to honor Jessica, a brain tumor survivor, by supporting other people who have made it through cancer. High school, undergraduate, or graduate students who are pediatric brain tumor survivors may apply.

Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Provider: The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS)

The Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship awards scholarships to childhood cancer survivors. Applicants must be a childhood cancer survivor under the age of 25 and diagnosed before the age of 18.
